circa 1780

the domed lid with finial knob resting on a bulbous body tapering to the base with a flared foot; painted overall with blue and rouge-de-fer floral clusters within diaper perimeter bands; The historic production of Faenza majolica is recognized worldwide as one of the highest moments of artistic creativity expressed through pottery. The tradition was born from a convergence of favorable conditions: a territory rich in clay, a centuries-old history of political and commercial relations with nearby Tuscany (especially with Florence); minor chipping to rim, underside of lid and base; good antique condition with no repairs or cracks
