Bill Bloomfield engages the intersecting qualities between art and architecture through vibrant, hard-edge paintings inspired by the effect of light. Bill has a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. As part of his thesis he studied color and form through silk screen printing and continues this exploration today through his paintings.

BIOGRAPHY

STATEMENT

the realistically and finely turned and carved life-size hat of well-figured burl and maple wood, with telescope (flat) crown above an incised trim band all over a wide undulating brim; signed and dated 'Johan Michelsen '91 #85' (an early example of his hat carvings, 85th hat to be produced); small repair to crown.

each of chic Italian design with arbalète crest rail above an openwork splat joining an upholstered seat; raised on gracefully splayed supports; professionally refinished; minor wear to surface; reupholstered 

each of whimsical butterfly form and labeled 'farfalla' having chromed steel frames encircled by six lights and issuing curved arms ending in circular discs; good vintage condition; professionally cleaned and rewired

Each with sloping in-curved crest rail over vertical spiral-carved stiles; joining a U-shaped tight seat above a reeded apron all raised on cabriole supports joined by a carved X-form stretcher;  professionally restored with warm patina and new leather upholstery

each with chrome back plate fitted with three glass "ice block" shaped elements of radiating form; the two outer elements are removable; professionally rewired; excellent condition with no chips or cracks; some patina to chrome

the semi-attached leather cushion flanked by dramatic flared openwork arms with mother-of-pearl inlay over a similar openwork apron with mother-of pearl inlay and turned elements creating an intricate latticework; with beautifully carved spandrels above turned feet; the benches display the skill of the Damascus craftsmen of this time; excellent condition with only minor repairs; new leather upholstery

these unique carvings are from a Churulan Vallam, a traditional narrow boat used in the famous snake boat races of Kerala, South India and powered by approximately 45 people; the prow is carved as a "churul" meaning a ring out of local aini wood and adorned with incised carvings and applied metal embellishments; some missing metal elements with overall wear and abrasions; age cracks

each with leather saddle seat seeming to float above an ebonized wooden base with turned legs fitted with brass caps and feet; new tan leather upholstery; good vintage condition with minor marks and wear; The G Plan Story: G Plan can trace its roots back to 1898, when Ebenezer Gomme began handcrafting furniture in his workshop. In 1953, his grandson Donald launched the G Plan brand and with it a post-war furniture revolution. Over the years G Plan has created some of the most enduring and iconic furniture of the 20th century.

of classic Robsjohn-Gibbings design with its iconic profile featuring a framed upholstered back above a loose cushion seat flanked by open work arms; all raised on subtly flared supports; warm patina to well-figured walnut frame; professionally refinished; good sturdy condition; in need of reupholstering.

From the artist: Old fishing boats have always fascinated me. Those on the verge of falling apart, and sinking into the sea seem to call me, and I cannot pass one by without shooting a photograph as inspiration for a future painting. I seek to capture their essence, in a time less hurried, a calmness of spirit. I want to preserve their beauty.

Michael Dunlavey is a true watercolor master learning his craft first from his father as a boy then receiving his B.A. and Masters in Art from California State University, Sacramento.

the hand-carved walnut bear with expressive gaze fitted with glass eyes; most likely from the Black forest area in the Swiss city of Interlagen; with rich dark patina; good antique condition with minor wear

the thickly-modeled large vessel with exaggerated mouth above a long flaring neck over a bulbous body all in a richly-colored teal mottled drip glaze; excellent condition with no chips or cracks; original Jaru Pottery label

Three globular forms with narrow mouths; comprising blue glaze example, dark purple glaze example, and black glaze with ocher accent; the blue vase with "Otto 98", the purple vase with "Otto 02", the black vase with "Otto 99"; excellent condition with minimal wear

signed 1960s bench with floating rectangular upholstered seat resting on a walnut base with square-form tapering legs connected by two stretchers; makers label to inner stretcher; Jens Risom (1916-2016) was a Danish American furniture designer. An exemplar of Mid-Century modern design, Rison was one of the first designers to introduce Scandinavian design in the United States. His designs are on display at the Museum of Modern Art, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum;  professionally refinished and reupholstered

As one person described Arthur Court's San Francisco shop, "it's a world of wonders - elegant and exotic". A new and innovative aluminum casting process led Arthur and Arthur Court Designs into a new era. His unique aluminum furniture and accessories featured cast antler chandeliers, chairs, tables and bookcases. 
Department stores across the United States brought his aluminum creations to loyal followers and collectors; reupholstered in brown cowhide.

from his Potrero Hill studio, San Francisco artist Bill Stanisich would lay down his brush and gaze down onto Yerba Buena Island, the Bay Bridge and surrounding water.  What he saw was ever-changing so he decided to capture on paper the various moods of mother nature. On still, clear nights, the water was a sheet of glass and Yerba Buena Island's silhouette soaked up the darkness creating a black void, while the tips of the Bay Bridge Towers emited beacons of light in the distance. When it rained, vague shadows were barely visible through the wet, dark skies.

the 3-sided top above a paneled conforming body centering double-doors fitted with a solid brass latch; John Van Koert was a prominent New York designer who helped promote the fascination with Danish modern furnishings in the 1950's. In 1954, he was exhibition director of ''Design in Scandinavia,'' at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, introducing modern Scandinavian design to Americans. Mr. Van Koert's furniture designs for Drexel, were represented by prominent department stores such as Macy's and Bloomingdale's; good vintage condition with minor wear and patina; patina to brass
