from the artist: I've long been inspired by old things. The texture and play of light on a weathered surface are the things that spark my imagination. I seek to capture a building's essence in my paintings, in a time less hurried with a calmness of spirit. In 1897, the company merged with a competitor, Wakefield Rattan Co., to form the Heywood-Wakefield Co. Heywood-Wakefield’s iconic Streamline Modern furniture line was introduced at the 1933 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago. The soft-curved, light-colored look ushered in an age of furniture called midcentury modern.
each large glazed ceramic baluster-form table lamp on later lucite bases designed by Swedish artist Ingrid Atterberg as part of the "Spiral' series, circa 1949, with alternating ochre and white stripes on a matte brown ground; impressed marks to underside; Ingrid Atterberg (1920-2008) was born in the northern Sweden city of Harnosand. She studied at Slojdforeningens School in Gothenburg. Ingrid came to the Upsala-Ekeby Pottery factory in 1944, staying on until 1964.
