surmounted by a bold ribbon above an oval frame adorned with laurel leaves and pinwheel bosses all in a finely detailed repoussé metalwork; later antiqued mirror plate; overall even rubbing and patina to gilt metal surface
originally used as traveling tea tables for the British in India; the octagonal top with central eight-pointed star medallion surrounded by floral and foliate motifs within a foliate vine perimeter band; raised on a hinged base with arabesque spandrels; good antique condition with overall warm patina; small areas of replaced inlay; top now affixed to base
Each with sloping in-curved crest rail over vertical spiral-carved stiles; joining a U-shaped tight seat above a reeded apron all raised on cabriole supports joined by a carved X-form stretcher; professionally restored with warm patina and new leather upholstery
having curved front with five inlaid doors, all raised on turned and flared feet with brass terminals; the center door opens to reveal sycamore-veneered drawers; the right door opens to reveal a mirrored and glass bar compartment; excellent condition

Its popularity headed west in the 1860s, first traveling to England, which had taken over rule of India from the British East India Company in 1858, and then further into Europe.

from the artist: old fishing boats have always fascinated me. those on the verge of falling apart, and sinking into the sea seem to call me, and i cannot pass one by without shooting a photograph as inspiration for a future painting. i seek to capture their essence, in a time less hurried, a calmness of spirit. i want to preserve their beauty.
