BIOGRAPHY

Bill Bloomfield engages the intersecting qualities between art and architecture through vibrant, hard-edge paintings inspired by the effect of light. Bill has a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. As part of his thesis he studied color and form through silk screen printing and continues this exploration today through his paintings. 

STATEMENT

the striking ovoid vessel with fish-mouth opening; painted overall with large leaves and bamboo shoots all on a white ground; with underglaze blue markings to underside; The first porcelain factory in the town of Marktredwitz opened in 1872 and was known under the name of Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co. until Fritz Thomas quit in 1898, opening his own factory in 1903. In 1908, the “F. Thomas, Marktredwitz” factory was purchased by Rosenthal, ceasing operation in 1960.

from his Potrero Hill studio, San Francisco artist Bill Stanisich would lay down his brush and gaze down onto Yerba Buena Island, the Bay Bridge and surrounding water.  What he saw was ever-changing so he decided to capture on paper the various moods of mother nature. On still, clear nights, the water was a sheet of glass and Yerba Buena Island's silhouette soaked up the darkness creating a black void, while the tips of the Bay Bridge Towers emited beacons of light in the distance. When it rained, vague shadows were barely visible through the wet, dark skies.

surmounted by a bold ribbon above an oval frame adorned with laurel leaves and pinwheel bosses all in a finely detailed repoussé metalwork; later antiqued mirror plate; overall even rubbing and patina to gilt metal surface

the thick and robust beechwood frame with silver-gilt accents surrounding the original antiqued mirror plate; excellent antique condition with well-patinated mirror plate

the original rectangular plate surrounded by a deeply, well-carved frame of robust cascading laurel leaves; the crest and lower rail with lively foliage, stylized flowers and grapes; antiquing to plate; patination to later paint and gilding.
