each large glazed ceramic baluster-form table lamp on later lucite bases designed by Swedish artist Ingrid Atterberg as part of the "Spiral' series, circa 1949, with alternating ochre and white stripes on a matte brown ground; impressed marks to underside; Ingrid Atterberg (1920-2008) was born in the northern Sweden city of Harnosand. She studied at Slojdforeningens School in Gothenburg. Ingrid came to the Upsala-Ekeby Pottery factory in 1944, staying on until 1964.
An unusual pair of hand-blown clear and gold aventurine Venetian candlesticks with large-scale dolphin connectors made by Salviati, circa 1920's featuring dramatic full-bodied upward-facing dolphins; raised on a splayed quilted foot with removable quilted bobeche; excellent condition with no chips or cracks;
Peter Hamlett (American 1919-1972) signed Oil on Board, dated 1966 verso; the lush impressionist style still life painting with thick broad brushstrokes depicting a tablescape setting with a copper pot, various vegetables and a bottle of wine; signed lower left and verso and titled 'Staff of Life' Laguna Beach 1966; Born in 1919 in Mokanshan, China during a time of political unrest, Peter Hamlett, a seascape painter, left China at age 18 when he graduated from Shanghai American School.

These lamps are a perfect example of the extraordinary quality associated with the Frederick Cooper Lamp Company established in Chicago in 1923. Frederick was a Chicago artist and was fascinated with the new invention of lamps and tried to incorporate the elements and flavors of American architecture of that time which has been carried on through the generations. It’s fun to share my favorites at epoca! New to the gallery is this very cool and shimmering 8-light chandelier by Swedish glass designer Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors Glassworks. This circular chandelier has eight pie-shaped curved and textured crystal segments supported by a brass fixture. Carl Fagerlund was internationally recognized for his unique and cutting edge lighting designs at Orrefors Glassworks during the 1960’s through 70’s and I’m proud that we have a great example to share with you.

In honor of International Women's Day, epoca highlight's the work of an amazing mid-century female sculptor, Joanna Gichner Kendall. Joanna Gichner Kendall (b. 1899, Baltimore, MD. d. April 20, 1989) A portrait sculptor, she fulfilled numerous commissions for portrait busts of notables, including President John F. Kennedy and Will Rogers .
epoca presents San Francisco Artist, William Stanisich, Watercolors and other works "The world’s magnificence has been enriched by a new beauty, the beauty of speed." -- Filippo Marinetti In brilliant colors complemented by velvety blacks and the virginal white of untouched paper, William Stanisich’s nocturnal street scenes are a paradoxical combination of speed and utter stillness. In these virtuoso watercolors, every surface pictured, wet with rain, has been transformed into a vehicle for light. The paintings themselves tell their story, of color applied and moved; of how an artist can take water, paper, and pigment and make moving pictures--in more than one sense of the word. Studying them, you can almost hear the sound of cars on wet pavement; of horns and engines, speeding away from you, into the night.
